SkyUp Airlines: New connections to Athens, Thessaloniki, and Heraklion from Moldova

The Ukrainian-based airline SkyUp Airlines is opening three new direct routes to Athens, Thessaloniki, and Heraklion from Chisinau, Moldova, seeking to serve mainly the travel needs of many Ukrainians who now live in the neighboring country, to Greece, but also of Ukrainians who live in our country.

On May 19, SkyUp Airlines (U5) will operate its first scheduled flight from Chisinau to Athens, inaugurating the route that will be offered throughout the year at convenient days/times, between Moldova and Greece.

By adding the new route to its growing network, the airline continues - and strengthens - its offer to the traveling public of high-quality economic services throughout Europe.

The Athens-Chisinau connection will be operated twice a week, with a cost starting from 56 euros, including taxes.

Departure from Athens will be, Monday and Friday, at 11.20 and arrival at 13.20, while flights from Chisinau will depart at 8.20 and arrive in Athens at 10.20.

During the winter season, flights will be operated as follows...

Chisinau → Athens: Every Monday and Saturday, departure at 07:00 and arrival at 09:00.

Athens → Chisinau: Every Monday and Saturday, departure at 10:00 and arrival at 12:05.

SkyUp will also operate flights during the summer to Thessaloniki and Heraklion. The connection to Thessaloniki will be operated from May 20 to October 25, 2025, with a cost of 59 euros and 2 weekly flights, while with Heraklion it started on April 26 with 3 weekly flights per route, from May 12 it continues with 6 weekly and from May 23 with daily flights. Their cost starts from 100 euros.

The airline was forced to move its operations from Ukraine in 2022 due to geopolitical developments in the country, and from 2023, its base is Chisinau, from where it started regular flights to 13 destinations in 8 countries, with a fleet of 11 aircraft.

As the Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine, Mr. Volodymyr Liashenko, pointed out at a relevant event held in Athens to present the airline’s new routes, “the launch of international routes by Ukrainian air carriers is a powerful symbol for the world, for Ukrainians, because despite the war, Ukrainian businesses continue to grow and the country’s economy is strengthening.” He encouraged Greek businesses to cooperate with Ukraine as “now is the time to look ahead to the future.”

The new routes, he stressed, are a great opportunity for Ukrainians living in Greece and Moldova, which opens up possibilities for business trips, cooperation trips, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
