Certification of two state airports under new aviation authority is completed in GreeceEight more pending

The certification of the Civil Aviation Service (CAS) and the state international airports of Heraklion 'Nikos Kazantzakis' and of Alexandroupolis 'Dimokritos' was completed at a special ceremony at the Service's facilities on Friday, ANA reports.

The two international airports are the first of ten airports managed by the newly established CAS to have concluded their certification. The certifications of the remaining eight will be completed by the end of February 2025. The actions follow law 4757/2020 which transferred the management of airports from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to the Civil Aviation Service.

Certification of the airports is part of the obligation to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Union (Commission Regulation 139/2014). Prior to certification, officials inspected the airports' facilities and the Service's central operation. Regular as well as unscheduled inspections continue in the future as part of certification regulations.
