Reduced schedules for mass transit across Greece during Easter holidayThe coronavirus pandemic measures brought a huge drop in passenger numbers

Mass transportation schedules will run even less frequently over the Greek Orthodox Easter after the coronavirus pandemic measures saw a huge drop in passenger numbers, ANA reports.

The schedules will be further reduced during Easter weekend, from Good Friday (April 17) through Easter Monday (April 20).

Athens metro trains on Lines 2 and 3 (the red and blue lines) will run every 15 minutes for the above time period, while the ISAP electric train will run every 12.5 minutes, and the tram every 22 minutes.

All schedules will be completed for the day of Holy Saturday at 23:00, with the trains arriving thereabouts at all terminals.

Buses and trolleys will have been withdrawn by 23:00 on Saturday, with the last schedules running no later than 22:00.

Buses going to the Athens International Airport (the X lines), will continue as usual. On Good Friday and Easter Monday, in particular, they will run on weekend schedules.

Furthermore, intercity trains will stop all itineraries for Easter, TrainOSE announced, including trains between Athens and Thessaloniki; Athens and Halkida (Evia); Larissa and Thessaloniki; and Thessaloniki to Serres. The suspension of schedules will begin on Good Friday through Easter Monday. The intercity travel has been banned by the government as part of curbs on movement for the coronavirus pandemic.

Long-distance buses (KTEL) will not operate on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday within Attica, while on Good Friday and Holy Saturday buses will run on a Sunday schedule.

Meanwhile, KTEL terminal stations in Athens are experiencing long lines of Attica residents picking up Easter baskets from relatives in the rest of Greece.
