Stama Greece | Standards upgrade the level of hospitality in short-term rentals

"A positive and necessary step for the upgrade of hospitality services" characterizes the Association of Short-Term Rental Companies (Stama Greece) the establishment of standards for short-term rentals, which is included in the new law.

As it emphasizes, the Association had proposed the establishment of standards from May 19, 2024, in the relevant memorandum it had submitted to the competent ministries, although most short-term rental properties had the required safe operation standards.

Stama notes:

"...Although the bill was initially drafted without the participation of industry representatives, our recent participation in the parliamentary committee is a positive first step.

The final text of the bill justifies the positions of Stama and collaborating organizations such as POMIDA and the final result of our efforts is considered successful.

The elimination of the restriction for primary residence use is a milestone for short-term rental, saving investments worth millions and ensuring new development opportunities because short-term rental contributes millions of euros annually to the Greek economy and strengthens local communities through travel expenses and new jobs.

Major investments that have already been made and will be made in the future have been saved, while at the same time many spaces will retain the right to find a new use and not be left to abandonment and oblivion.

It is not overlooked that the challenges for our market lie ahead and that our product has been burdened with unbearable accommodation fees, equating us with 5* hotels, as well as other provisions and controls that are not required in other forms of hospitality.

Despite the high charges, we remain committed to providing superior hospitality services, enhancing the competitiveness of the Greek tourism product.

Finally, the final form of the bill gives us the strength to continue our fight as a responsible institutional body to defend the interests of short-term rental professionals and highlight our contribution to the national economy, local communities, and entrepreneurship."
