Part of the strategic plan for Greeks Abroad 2024-2027 aims at upgrading in both ways the relationship between Greece and the Greek diaspora, and one way of doing that is to upgrade the existing consular services, government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis told the radio station SBS of Australia on Thursday, ANA reports.

Speaking with report Alexandros Logothetis, Marinakis said the goal is to drastically reduce response times to requests by Greeks abroad, increase the effectiveness of consular services, and reduce the need for physical visits to consulates. These steps would decongest services and save on expenses, he added.

The portal of 'Gov. gr' already offers a section for Greeks abroad, along with the multilanguage digital assistant 'myAigov', on the same portal, that allows them to find the services they need. Another help, Marinakis said, was the 'Virtual Assistant' services, incorporated in all Greek embassy and consulate web pages responding with AI technology to questions in 19 languages 24/7. Finally, the service 'myConsul live' allows individual appointments with staff to resolve issues through a teleconference.

Marinakis also noted that teachers' postings to Greek schools abroad, handled by the Education Ministry, will be speeded up according to the ministry, with the first batch of decisions completed by the beginning of June.

"This is the meaning of a national plan" on Greeks abroad, the spokesman said, "that is, to encompass several specific ministries and services."

The spokesman also mentioned the postal vote system for Greeks abroad, which involves Greeks in 80 countries. A total of 50,000 were registered to vote by mail for the European elections, he added, while he expressed the goal of ruling New Democracy increasing its seats in parliament from the current 158 (out of a total of 300) to 200.
