Dertour: Interest in a Greek surprise island soars in 2025

Greece continues to be at the top of Germans’ holiday preferences, as confirmed by the data available to tour operator Dertour so far, but there is also a Greek surprise destination.

On the occasion of the opening of the world’s largest exhibition for tourism and leisure aimed at travelers, CMT (January 18-26, Stuttgart), the head of sales for Dertour travel agencies for Stuttgart, Ludwigsburg and Rems-Murr, Ms. Sandra Windsheimer, stated that in addition to Turkey, Egypt, and Tunisia, Greece is one of the most popular destinations of the year.

Families want to spend their holidays on the Greek islands, with Crete and Rhodes being particularly popular, Ms. Windsheimer.

However, this year there has been a particular increase in bookings for Thassos. As Ms. Windsheimer reported, this year there are many incoming bookings for the island, known for its mild climate and beautiful sandy beaches. Anyone who is familiar with it can also find cheap accommodation in Thassos, Ms. Windsheimer points out, suggesting renting a car to potential visitors to the destination, “because the island has a lot to offer.”

The Dertour representative said that in 2024, holidays in the Scandinavian countries were the star, with particularly high demand for trips to Ireland and Scotland, but also to Norway and Finland. The volume of bookings for Bali and Zanzibar also increased. The island, which belongs to Tanzania off the coast of East Africa, is very popular, mainly due to its new, stylish hotels. “Our customers are absolutely thrilled with the new Aldiana Club Zanzibar Kwanza,” she said.

Holidays are consistently more important than material goods

The trend of self-care on holiday, which has been recorded in the travel industry for several years, continues. The importance of holidays has increased dramatically. Especially in times of crisis, the desire for a relaxing break is great and many would prefer to invest in beautiful memories rather than material goods. “Vacations are no longer a privilege, but a part of life. I often hear from my customers: I am more happy to go on holiday than to buy a new car or a new sofa,” says Ms. Windsheimer.

The importance of travel is great even for financially vulnerable consumers, who do not want to avoid them.
