The travel giant TUI has contributed its resources to the programme which aims to help refugees grasp the language
Partnering with German authorities and local volunteers, TUI hopes to arrange language courses, free text books and tuition for those fleeing conflict in the Middle East, ttg media.com reports.
A pilot scheme is currently taking place in Hanover, which if successful, could pave the way for 10,000 refugees to be educated.
Participants would be given the chance to take part in a 10-week language course during which they would also receive careers advice.
According to BBC News, more than one million migrants and refugees entered into Europe in 2015, with the mass exodus triggered by the rise of Islamic State and the civil war in Syria causing instability across the region.
Thomas Ellerbeck, chairman of the Tui Foundation’s Board of Trustees, described the passion of Germans to get involved with the scheme: “Large sections of the population are willing to get involved in helping the refugees on a voluntary basis, and this shows that the refugee situation is a challenge that can be overcome by the government and civil society together.”
