Chinese Weddings in Chios: Four Couples Say “Yes” on the Island of Mastic

Four couples from China are visiting Chios these days, as part of an action to promote the island’s cultural heritage through wedding tourism. The Municipality of Chios, through the Department of Development, Entrepreneurship, Shipping and Tourism, is organizing and hosting four traditional weddings, with the aim of Chios’ dynamic entry into the destination weddings market.

The couples are accompanied by high-ranking executives from the Chinese tourism industry, with the aim of creating a portfolio to promote the island in the Asian market, mainly for the off-peak season. The contact arose during the visit of a delegation from the Municipality of Chios to China last winter, in which the mayor’s special advisor, Paraskevi Potamoussi, and the deputy mayor for Tourism, Georgios Christakis, participated. The response was immediate, and the invitation of Mayor Ioannis Malafis led to the implementation of the action, which is part of the 2025 Tourism Promotion Program.

The ceremonies take place in places of unparalleled natural beauty, with respect for local customs and traditions, traditional silk costumes and accompanied by local products. It is noted that the mission has a total of 18 people.

Among other things, the program includes a photo shoot at the Mastic Museum, Mavra Volia, and Myloi, with a backdrop of wedding dresses and traditional costumes. A tour and lunch in Emporio, activities in Mastichohoria, as well as stops in Pyrgi and Mesta with local treats, such as soumada, lemonade, masourakia, and almond cakes, accompanied by musicians.
