“Aeginio, the town of storks”: new tourist brochure for Pieria

• Another step towards highlighting the ecotourism wealth of Pieria – The bilingual brochure for the natural treasure of Aeginio was officially presented

The natural phenomenon of stork nesting in Aeginio, which has been impressing visitors and locals for years, now has its own guide. The new bilingual tourist brochure entitled “Aeginio, the town of storks” was officially presented at an event held on Monday, May 19, at the Aeginio Town Hall.

The presentation was organized by the Pierian Tourism Development and Promotion Organization (P.O.T.A.P.) and the Pieria Regional Unit, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pydna-Kolindros and the Professionals Association of Northern Pieria.

The elegant publication, the fruit of the collaboration of organizations and creators, aspires to be a useful tool for the tourist promotion and environmental awareness of the region.

It includes rich photographic material, information on the phenomenon of stork migration, observation routes, points of interest, and suggested activities for families, nature lovers, students, and tourists.

The publication was officially delivered by the Deputy Governor of Pieria, Ms. Sofia Mavridou, to the Mayor of Pydna-Kolindros, Mr. Christos Kompatsiaris, and to the Board of Directors of the Professionals Association. Also present at the event were the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Ms. Maria Navrozidou, the Vice President of the Professionals Association, Ms. Maria Gantsidou, as well as the contributors to the publication, Anastasia Dermata, Paschalis Dermata, and Giorgos Stavridis.

Natural wealth with a tourist and educational impact

The presence of storks in the heart of the urban fabric of Aegini is not only a unique natural attraction, but also an important opportunity to develop forms of tourism with an emphasis on nature and experience. Ecotourism, birdwatching, and environmental education are emerging as key axes of the new planning for the tourist development of the area.

Ms. Mavridou, in the context of the event, underlined the importance of nature as a lever for gentle development:

“Aeginio proves that nature, when we respect and preserve it, can generously offer us opportunities for development. Storks are carriers of life and ecological awareness. As the Regional Unit of Pieria, we support every initiative that highlights our natural wealth and creates new forms of tourism development with respect for the environment and benefit for the local community.”

For his part, the Mayor of Pydna-Kolindrou, Mr. Christos Kompatsiaris, referred to the connection of the region with nature and biodiversity:

“Aeginio – the Town of Storks – hosts storks every year, which are part of our identity. I am committed to supporting every effort to protect and promote this natural heritage. The Bird Observatory in Nea Agathoupoli is a key tool for information and environmental awareness. Our goal is for Aeginio to emerge as a reference point for stork observation, strengthening local development and ecological awareness.
Strategic planning for sustainable tourism

The publication of publication is part of a broader framework of strategic initiatives to promote Pieria as a place with a unique ecological and cultural identity. The Pierian Tourism Development and Promotion Organization, in collaboration with the Pieria Regional Unit, the municipalities and local bodies, is planning actions that aim at sustainable tourism development, with respect for the environment and strengthening the local community.

Aeginio, with nature as its ally and storks as its ambassadors, aspires to become a model destination for experiential tourism, where the harmonious coexistence of man and environment is transformed into an experience for every visitor.
