47th Sacrifice Cycling Tour in Patras and Kalavryta

From March 21 to 23 in Patras and Kalavryta, on the occasion of the anniversary of the National Day of March 25, 1821, the 47th Sacrifice Cycling Tour and Endurance Cup is scheduled to take place, which is co-organized by the Patras Cycling Club, among others.

It is noted that the Cycling Tour of Sacrifice has been organized without interruption for the last 47 years, in memory of the fighters of 1821. In previous events, over 400 athletes took part, who together with their coaches and companions exceed 800 people and visit Patras, Kalavryta and Achaia in general. This event has resulted in the stimulation of tourism, but also the dissemination of the history, culture, customs and traditions of the region, within and outside local borders, in the context of a race that is considered to be a unique achievement for the cycling events of the country.

Specifically, on the first day of its holding, the race includes routes with individual timed races from the Dymaion wall to Lappa, on the second day the Endurance Cup Race is held in the region of Western Achaia and on the last day of the athletic action, the 47th Sacrifice and Endurance Cup Race takes place in the region of Patras and Kalavryta.

The purpose of the Sacrifice Cycling Tour is, among other things, the preservation of local cultural heritage and its dissemination to young people, but also the promotion of cultural and athletic activities that promote moral values, virtue, free will, collective effort and especially individual effort as a means of inner liberation and human integration.

Finally, the Cycling Tour of Sacrifice is supported by the Region of Western Greece, as participation in programs of cultural and sports organizations, the implementation of cultural programs and events of supra-local importance, the joint organization with local organizations of cultural events with the aim of preserving local cultural heritage and disseminating it to young people, as well as the implementation of sports programs in collaboration with various organizations, fall within the Region's plans for the prosperity of its areas of responsibility.
