Metropolis of Boston organizes annual successful Fall Camp Program in New Hampshire

The annual Fall Camp Program of the Metropolis of Boston was held successfully this year. Over two hundred children of both genders from the communities of New England gathered at the Camp Center of the Metropolis of Boston in Contoocook, NH.

The program features an entertaining combination of activities related to the Orthodox Faith and Greek identity and heritage, that leads to learning and the establishment of new friendships and relationships.

The recreational part of the program also included a visit to the village of Contoocook, which at this time of year offers a unique experience with the turning of the colors of the leaves and apple picking.

Metropolitan Methodios of Boston attended the program, and he was thrilled by the overall atmosphere and the cheerful voices of the children, describing the atmosphere as “enthusiastic” and full of “energy.” Metropolitan Methodios participated with the children in their activities, shared meals, exchanged thoughts, and had conversations with them.

It is emphasized that daily church attendance was part of the program, specifically the participation in Vespers where Metropolitan Methodios presided. After Vespers, dinner was served at a common table, followed by instruction in the Orthodox Faith.

Metropolitan Methodios told The National Herald, that, “the Fall Program went very well. I was delighted that so many children attended, and what impressed me greatly was that during the service on the right analogion, half of the children were present and they all chanted together, opening my heart.” He added, “A lot of good work is being done at the Camp Center.”

It should be noted that registrations filled up within minutes of the platform opening, but over a hundred children could not participate and were placed on the waiting list due to space limitations. The Metropolis of Boston is already exploring ways to accommodate more children for the Fall Program in 2024.

The Camp Center of the Metropolis of Boston is located in Contoocook, NH approximately a two-hour drive from Boston and about half an hour from the state capital, Concord. It is an idyllic location with a large lake, with a chapel dedicated to Saint George, a Hospitality Building, a dining area, and cabins for the campers. At this time, an indoor gymnasium is under construction and is expected to be completed by May, 2024.

Metropolitan Methodios envisioned the Camp Center more than thirty years ago, to provide young people with their own camp space, as until then, the Metropolis had rented various facilities. Over the past thirty years since its establishment, thousands of children have participated, strengthening their Orthodox Faith and their Hellenic Cultural Heritage.

It is emphasized that the children contribute a symbolic amount for their stay at the Camp Center, while the Metropolis of Boston provides scholarships to children from families facing financial difficulties.
