Costa Navarino wins European Golf Resort 2017 awardOne of Greece’s pre-eminent resorts, the expansive and cutting-edge Costa Navarino complex in the extreme southwest of the country, has earned the European Golf Resort of the Year 2017 distinction

One of Greece’s pre-eminent resorts, the expansive and cutting-edge Costa Navarino complex in the extreme southwest of the country, has earned the European Golf Resort of the Year 2017 distinction by the International Association of Gold Tour Operators (IAGTO).

The award was announced at a ceremony on Thursday in Mallorca, Spain.

More than 640 tour operators specializing in high-end golf tourism from 61 countries around the world voted for the award.

Costa Navarino features two signature 18-hole courses nestled between the stunning and olive grove-laden landscape of the southern Peloponnese and the azure Ionian Sea.

The Dunes Course has been designed by US Masters champion and former Ryder Cup captain Bernhard Langer, in partnership with European Golf Design.

The Bay Course is designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and caters to players of all levels.

The distinction is unprecedented for a Greek resort, given the extreme difficulty of building a world-class 18-hole course in the country, which although a premier tourism and quintessential Mediterranean destination with incomparable scenery, is bedeviled by complex land use hurdles and red tape at all levels.
