ETC: Greece scans in attracting new visitors from Europe

In a European champion in claiming- and attracting- new European visitors, namely those who have never visited the destination, Greece is highlighted, as according to the latest European Travel Committee (ETC) report, our country draws on the largest percentage of new visitors from the European Travel Troop.

At the same time, Greece is emerging among the top 4 holiday destinations for Europeans in the summer and autumn of 2025.

These come from the ETC report investigating intra -European trips for the summer and autumn of 2025, according to which Greece is gathering a share of new visitors of 24%, the highest among the 10 largest European destinations (Spain, Italy, France, Turkey, Turkey, Turkey, Turkey, Greece, Greece This percentage represents the share of Europeans who said they have not visited Greece in the past three years but are going to do so. Greece is followed by Croatia (23%), Portugal (22%) and Turkey (20%).

In contrast, most of the repetitive visitors are concentrated by Spain (25%), Italy (20%) and France (19%). Repeated in Greece are 16%in Croatia at 15%, in Portugal at 14%and in Turkey at 18%.

Over half of them are looking for unusual destinations

However, the Mediterranean remains the most sought after destination for Europeans, with Spain's first choice (13%, an increase of 5 percentage points compared to last year). Following are Italy (10%), France (8%) and Greece (6%). This, however, has led Europeans to find that there is an unequal distribution of travel flows to certain destinations in peak predictor. Concern for over -concentration of tourists in preferred locations has increased by 3% since the summer of 2024, along with the increasing emphasis on the choice of less busy destinations, which is now a priority for 11% of travelers, increasing a 4% increase over last year.

Indeed, 55% of Europeans plan to have a summer vacation in 2025 in less popular or unusual destinations, compared to a corresponding 48% recorded in the spring of 2025. In the meantime, interest in traditional tourist points has decreased proportionally as they are now selected by 45%.

"Strong paper" now September

In the same context, there is also a tendency for off -season travel. July and August remain the most popular months of summer holidays, as everyone is an option for 25% of Europeans, but September is evolving on strong paper, gathering 22% of Europeans for travel. This strong preference suggests that a significant share of travelers is open to off-peak options, motivated by milder climatic conditions, the smallest crowding in destinations and the better quality-price relationship.

65% chooses another European country

In general, for the period from June to November 2025, 77% of Europeans plan to travel, indicative of strong demand that persists despite economic uncertainty. 65% choose cross -border trips within Europe, up 6.5% on an annual basis.

In the vast majority (91%) Europeans intend to travel within Europe in the coming months, while only 8% are considering travel outside Europe, which is likely to be linked to the highest cost and continuing geopolitical uncertainties abroad.

Within Europe, interest in domestic travel (26%) and in neighboring countries (33%) remains stable. However, an increasing rate of Europeans (32%, 5% increase since last summer) are exploring options beyond neighboring countries, to more distant destinations across the continent. This shift could be due to the growing mood for culturally unique experiences that combine intimacy, safety and ease of intra -European travel.
