Olga Kefalogianni at the new GNTO Office in Milan

The new GNTO Office in Milan, which now functions as a central hub for networking and cooperation for Italy, was visited by the Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, in the context of strengthening the presence of Greek tourism in the Italian market.

During her stay in the Italian metropolis, the Minister granted interviews to leading Italian media outlets, such as the ANSA agency, Economy Magazine, as well as the most important tourist publications: TTG Italia, Guida Viaggi, Travel Quotidiano, Turismo & Attualità, and Trend. She also gave statements to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.

Ms. Kefalogianni underlined the importance of the Italian market, which is the third largest for our country, after Germany and the United Kingdom, and which maintains a steady upward trend. In 2024, more than 2 million Italians visited Greece, recording a 10% increase compared to 2023. Accordingly, travel receipts amounted to 1.22 billion euros, up 13.6%.

In her statements, the Minister of Tourism made special reference to the Political Declaration of the 2nd Supreme Council for Cooperation between Greece and Italy, noting: “Greece and Italy are joining forces for a more sustainable and resilient tourism – both economically and environmentally. We are moving forward with joint actions to address the climate crisis, based on the principles of UN Tourism.”

The discussions with the Italian media focused on strategic policy issues, such as tackling overtourism, sustainability, investments, bilateral cooperation, and the outlook for 2025. Ms. Kefalogianni presented the Ministry’s overall strategy for the diversification of Greek tourism and the strengthening of the country’s international image.

The meetings took place at the new premises of the Greek National Tourism Organization in the center of Milan, in a location of high commercial and business value. The new office has modern infrastructure and is planned to function as a hub for contacts, cooperation and extroversion for tourism professionals from Greece and Italy.
