Austria | +25% bookings for Greece in 2025

With an increase in bookings of 25% for the summer tourist season, new air connections, an increase in seat capacity (18%), more flights and an extension of the season, Greece remains by far the most popular destination for Austrians traveling by plane for their summer holidays.

This is the message from the International Tourism Fair Ferien 2025, which took place in Vienna between January 16-19 with the participation of the Hellenic National Tourism Organization.

Athens, Heraklion, Thessaloniki-Chalkidiki, Rhodes, Corfu, Chania, Kos, Mykonos, Santorini, Kalamata, Karpathos, Zakynthos and Kefalonia are among the top destinations for Austrians, while Heraklion and Rhodes will be connected daily with flights from Austria throughout the 2025 tourist season, which is expected to extend until November.

Contacts with Tour Operators and airlines

During the exhibition, the head of the Austrian National Tourist Office, Stavroula Skaltsi, and executives of the agency had a meeting with the CEO of TUI, Gottfried Matt, who noted that this year's bookings for Greece show a 40% increase compared to 2024, while the CEOs of Dertour, Springer Reisen and Ideal Tours described the same picture.

At the same time, the country's largest air carrier, Austrian Airlines, announced the addition of Limnos to the company's destinations, following relevant discussions with the Austrian National Tourist Office, an increase in seat capacity by 18% and an extension of the flight schedule due to strong demand for Greece.

A total of 23 Greek destinations are connected to Austria by direct flights, many of which are also operated from regional airports in the country.

The Greek Pavilion

The Ferien tourism exhibition in Vienna is the largest in the sector in Central Europe, as it serves as a meeting point for tourism professionals with the public from all neighboring countries, while at the same time, it is a barometer for the year's trends since it is the first major tourism exhibition held every year.

This year's event was attended by 450 exhibitors from 36 countries, while approximately 75,000 people visited it.

Co-exhibitors at the Greek pavilion were the Regions of Central Macedonia (Pieria), Eastern Macedonia & Thrace, Ionian Islands and Crete, the Municipalities of Volos-Peliou and Skiathos, the Tourism Organizations of Thessaloniki and Halkidiki, the Panhellenic Camping Association and the airline Sky Express, which has already started flights to and from Vienna.

The stand attracted the interest of a large number of visitors to the exhibition, while professionals from the Austrian market were also present for B2B meetings with representatives of the co-exhibitors, including the Deputy Governor of Lasithi, Michalis Klontzas, the Deputy Mayor of Skiathos, Alexandros Efstathiou, and directors of Tourism Services.
