Cargèse, built on the west coast of Corsica, between Ajaccio and Calvi, is no ordinary village. Its two churches, the Roman Catholic and the Greek, facing each other with a view of the Mediterranean, bear witness to its special history. In the 17th century, Greek refugees from the Peloponnese settled here, leaving their indelible mark on the local architecture and culture.

In this special setting, the Mylos Hotel, designed by the architectural firm Orma Architettura and decorated by the renowned Dorothée Meilichzon, attempts to become part of this history, respecting the landscape and the heritage of the village.

Mylos: A hotel in harmony with nature and history

The choice of the name “Mylos”, which means “mill” in Greek, is not accidental. It refers to the old windmill of the village, the ruins of which dominate the hotel. The philosophy of the project was to integrate into the landscape, following the local architecture and the natural slope of the land.

The hotel consists of distinct buildings with planted roofs and paths leading to the slopes. It has 35 rooms, of which 25 are located in the main building, while the rest are in buildings that follow the natural morphology of the land. The common areas include a restaurant, bar, spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, as well as a conference room. Particular attention has been paid to the preservation and reintroduction of local flora, with olive trees, myrtles, and mastic trees adorning the gardens.

Innovative Ecological Construction

The challenge of the intense relief led the architects to innovative, sustainable building solutions. The soil and stones from the excavations were reused to produce building materials: concrete with a rough texture, natural tones, and terracotta additions. No surface is waterproof, so rainwater returns to the ground, while greenery covers buildings and courtyards, offering coolness and harmony with the environment.

Interior design that tells stories

Dorothée Meilichzon, a lover of Cargèse, has created interiors that draw inspiration from the Mediterranean, Greek mythology, and the cosmopolitan simplicity of Corsica. Textures dominate: natural rock, green-veined marble, murals that evoke sea waves, fabrics that recall fishermen's ropes.

Details are everywhere: columns and arches, bathrooms inspired by classical architecture, headboards reminiscent of Corsican shepherds' berets. The view of the sea, from every window and every balcony, creates an authentic and atmospheric experience.

Teos: The gastronomic meeting of Greece and Corsica

In the heart of Mylos, the Teos restaurant brings the signature of Pierre Geronimi, the famous ice cream maker from Sagone, who presents a new concept of Mediterranean cuisine. Teos is a gastronomic bridge between Greece and Corsica, honoring local products: fresh vegetables from small producers, fish from local fishermen, local cheeses, and meats.

The menu, renewed every month, includes everything from fish lasagna to veal tartare with mango and creative desserts such as tiramisu with ouzo. Original touches, such as citrus ice cream served with fish or cheese ice cream with mea,t add surprise and lightness to the dining experience. The restaurant's atmosphere, with warm colors, organic lines and panoramic views of the Mediterranean, completes the experience.
