Gastronomic events with a touch of tradition in Karditsa

Every corner of Greece is full of events that honor the customs, traditions, and flavors of each place. In addition, these events give the residents of the regions the opportunity to express their creativity and have fun, while attracting travelers looking for authentic experiences that will bring them closer to the lifestyle of the Greek region. Two of these events are the Karagounikes Gefesis event in Kypseli and the Pita Festival in the Metropolis of Karditsa.

Karakounik Tastes in Kypseli

On June 21st in Kypseli, Karditsa, the event entitled Karakounik Tastes is scheduled to take place, which is co-organized, among others, by the Cultural and Educational Association of Kypseli, while it is under the auspices of the Region of Thessaly - Regional Unit of Karditsa.

Among other things, the event includes dishes from local recipes, while it is accompanied by an orchestra and a presentation by the Association's dance groups.

The purpose of the event is to highlight all the characteristics that make up the identity of the Karakounik land and its people in an experience of taste and culture.

Pie Festival in Metropolis

At the same time, on August 16, the Pie Festival is scheduled to take place in the village of Metropolis, which is co-organized by the Women's Association of Metropolis Gaia, among others.

At the event, the women of the village will prepare pies and other delicacies, using pure local ingredients, which will be offered to the public. The purpose of the event is to enjoy traditional flavors and spread the secrets of their preparation from generation to generation.

The 2,500-year-old Metropolis

On the occasion of the Pie Festival, travelers will have the opportunity to tour the village and discover its cultural treasures, as the current settlement is located on the site of the ancient city of Metropolis, which was founded approximately 2,500 years ago. The city was surrounded by very strong walls, which were renovated in the 6th century BC by the Byzantine emperor Justinian, according to the historian Procopius. It is noted that many of the archaeological finds of the Metropolis are located in the Archaeological Museum of Karditsa.

Furthermore, in the large square of the settlement, the visitor will admire the ancient ceramic kiln that is placed in a specially designed shelter, as well as the old preserved I. N. of Agios Georgios with the impressive iconostasis. Finally, the modern open-air theater of the Metropolis hosts many and varied events every year.
