International Women's Day with "Greek Breakfast"

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the "Greek Breakfast" program, an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCH), was presented at the Museum of Cycladic Art at a special event organized by the Ministry of Tourism and the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCH), combining the primary and tertiary sectors.

The Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogianni, in her opening remarks, emphasized that initiatives such as the "Greek Breakfast" confirm the country's commitment to offering a tourism product based on sustainability, cultural heritage, and authenticity. She praised the specific action of the HCH, as it highlights the decisive role that Greek gastronomy plays in strengthening local economies and in the long-term evolution of the particular characteristics of each region.

The Minister stated that “visitors do not simply enjoy a destination, but experience an experience that is deeply connected to the local flavors, traditions and people of the country”, underlining that gastronomy is an integral part of the travel experience, offering a tangible connection to the history, daily life and unique narratives of each destination.

She also stressed that the objectives of the Ministry of Tourism include the creation of a National Network of Agritourism and Gastronomy, which will be supported by a digital platform that will connect travelers with producers, local markets and gastronomic experiences. At the same time, certifications for agritourism and wine tourism businesses are being promoted, ensuring the authenticity of the experiences offered.

Ms. Kefalogianni also highlighted the importance of women's presence in the field of gastronomy and tourism, highlighting the contribution of women producers of local products to the preservation of tradition, innovation, and strengthening of the local economy.

The President of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, Mr. Alexandros Vassilikos, stated: "In collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, we have created another opportunity for 'diplomacy of taste' and indeed with a 'woman’s scent". It is no coincidence that we say that hospitality is feminine. It is not just a job, but an experience that requires care, empathy, and inclusiveness – values ​​inextricably linked to feminine nature. At the same time, hospitality also creates value for the economy. More than a quarter of the hotels have embraced the action of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels' “Greek Breakfast”, connecting the hotel industry with the primary sector and highlighting Greek gastronomy".

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms. Elena Rapti, female Ambassadors, distinguished personalities, representatives of the tourism, gastronomy, local government, and entrepreneurship sectors.

Participants had the opportunity to take a private tour of the exhibition "Cycladic Women: Unknown Stories of Women of the Cyclades", learning about the unseen aspects of women's lives in the Cycladic culture.

The event concluded with a tasting of selected products from various regions of Greece, under the supervision of the distinguished Chef, Ms. Argyros Koutsou, and the presence of local producers, while the event was coordinated by Gastronomy journalist and Chef, Ms. Eleni Psychouli.
