CNT Reader’s Awards 2022: Greece among top 10 of world’s best countries to travel toOccupancy levels exceeding 90 percent on Crete, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes, and Kos

Greece has been ranked among the world’s best travel destinations in the Conde Nast Traveller Reader’s Choice Awards for 2022, greekcitytimes.com reports.

Europe dominated this year’s awards across most categories, and they made up a big portion of the best countries to travel to, which are voted for by readers of the famous world travel magazine.

Greece came in at no.6 on the list of best countries in the world to travel to in 2022 with a score of 89.97, just ahead of Denmark and the United Kingdom. 

Portugal was no.1 on the list with a score of 91.22, followed by Japan, Thailand, and Singapore.

Greece is making a solid comeback this year as tourist arrivals continue their upward dynamic. Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias confirmed that the country is expected to surpass pre-pandemic 2019 levels this year.

“We’re aiming for record revenue… we will surpass 2019,” noted Kikilias, adding that the exact figures will be announced at the end of the season.

“However, if things go smoothly, tourism revenue will exceed 2019 levels,” he added, reiterating that Greece’s upgraded tourism product supports hundreds of professions and feeds the average Greek family.

Indicative of the dynamic, all popular tourist destinations in Greece are complete, pointed out Kikilias, with occupancy levels exceeding 90 percent on Crete, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes, and Kos.
