Greece withdraws two lignite-fired units from State Power Corporation's productionThe move will reduce the country's total power production using lignite by 27 pct.

Greece's energy watchdog on Tuesday decided on the final retirement of the Public Power Corporation's lignite-fired units, Kardia I-II and Amyntaeo I-II with a total power of 1200 MW, approving a PPC request in the framework of a phasing out of lignite in the country, ANA reports.
The Authority withdrew these units from PPC's single production license. The two units in Kardia terminated operations in June 2019 after exhausting the 17,500 hours of operation offered by European legislation, while the 17,500 hours of the Amyntaeo units were exhausted in November 2018, but the station remained operational until May 2, 2020.
