Rhodes: The season kicks off on March 28, wounds from "Bora" storm remains

There is intense concern among hoteliers on the "Island of the Knights", since the wounds left in Rhodes by the bad weather "Bora" have not healed. It is recalled that the Rhodes Hoteliers' Association sent a letter, on January 24, to the Ministers of the Interior, Tourism and the Deputy Minister of Development, requesting the urgent need for funding for the restoration projects of public infrastructure and the areas that were affected.
The letter underlines the seriousness of the situation, as the tourist season, which begins on March 28, 2025, and is expected to be particularly dynamic, requires the timely restoration of the damage to ensure the smooth operation of the tourist activity. The hoteliers point out that the delay in the necessary interventions will have significant impacts on both tourism and the local economy.
The hoteliers, for their part, are systematically proceeding with the restoration of the damage to their hotel units, in order to be ready for the start of the summer season. At the same time, they declare their willingness, to the extent of their capabilities, to contribute to the efforts to restore the overall image of the island.
Mayor of Rhodes | Time is pressing for the restoration of infrastructure
Speaking on this issue, at the New Year's pie-cutting event of the Union, the Mayor of Rhodes, Mr. Alexandros Koliadis, referred to the difficulties arising from the recent disasters due to bad weather, noting that time is pressing for the restoration of infrastructure, emphasizing the need for financial support from the central administration. He congratulated the Rhodes Hoteliers Association and the POX for their immediate mobilization and their interventions on this issue in the competent ministries.
At the same event:
The President of the EXR, Mr. Yiannis Papavassiliou, stressed the importance of the collective effort to ensure the quality of the provided tourist services while underlining that the Association is working methodically and is pressuring all the competent bodies with the aim of ensuring the readiness of the new tourist season.
The President of the Panhellenic Hoteliers Federation (POX), Mr. Yiannis Hatzis, referred to the importance of tourism for the national economy and pointed out that Rhodes can be a model for crisis management and the development of the sector.
The Dodecanese MPs and representatives of professional and tourism bodies underlined the need for cooperation and joint actions that will enhance the competitiveness of the island as a tourist destination.
The event concluded with a street party, where participants had the opportunity to chat in a friendly and festive atmosphere, confirming the need for unity and cooperation for the successful course of tourism in Rhodes in 2025.
The pie was blessed by His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos and among those present were the Dodecanese MPs Yiannis Pappas, Manos Konsolas and Vasilis Ypsilantis, the Mayor of Rhodes Alexandros Koliadis, the Deputy Governor for Culture and President of the Association of Travel Agents Christos Michalakis, who represented the PNEI, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism-Culture George Toppos, the President of the Greek Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yiannis Pappou, the Vice President George Antonoglou, the President of the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Dodecanese Branch Costas Zografidis, the President of the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce Mary Papandreou, the Dean of the School of Humanities of the University of the Aegean Yiannis Seimenis, the President of the Rhodes Chamber of Commerce Costas Spanos, the President of the Rhodes Hotel Managers Association George Matsigos, as well as the CEO of PROTOUR Anastasios Konstandaros. Messages were sent by MPs Ms. Mika Iatridi & Mr. George Nikitiadis.
