A Centenary Celebration of Maria Callas organized at Juilliard on September 21

Juilliard, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Greece in New York, honors the centenary of Maria Callas’ birth with a program that celebrates Callas’ remarkable life and indelible contribution to operatic history and craft. A Centenary Celebration of Maria Callas, part of The Arts and Society Series at The Juilliard School, takes place Thursday, September 21, 6:30 PM, at Juilliard’s Paul Hall, 155 West 65th Street in Manhattan.

Juilliard President Damian Woetzel and Consul General of Greece in New York Dinos Konstantinou invite everyone to attend an evening honoring the centenary of Maria Callas’ birth. During this special event, librettist, director, and Juilliard faculty member Stephen Wadsworth will explore Callas’ extraordinary life and her enduring impact on operatic history and craftsmanship with a program featuring recordings and a collection of rarely seen photos.

A reception following the presentation will include a tour of the Callas exhibit curated by the Juilliard Library and Archives, offering an opportunity to explore Callas’ influence on the world of opera through the lens of the 1971-72 master classes she led on campus.

Juilliard’s creative enterprise programming, including the Creative Associates program, is generously supported by Jody and John Arnhold.

This event is part of the Maria Callas Centenary Celebration, produced by the Office of the Consul General of Greece in New York with the kind support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and Pepsico.
