New children’s workshops at the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens

Every weekend from October to May, the Museum of Cycladic Art proposes workshops for children aged 2-12, according to int.ert.gr.

Through interactive storytelling tours, art workshops, theater plays, photography and music, kids and their parents get to know the museum up close.

PROPOSED WORKSHOPS

For children aged 2 to 3,5 years old  (accompanied by their guardians)

“Tik and Tela” by Axel Scheffler

Sundays 3/11 and 10/11, from 11: 30 to 13: 30

Saturday 23/11, from 11:00 to 13:00

Tik and Tela are two dear friends. They have adventures together, they play, they have fun and they love each other very much! They have a lot to tell us, so be prepared to listen to their adventures and experiences. Parents and children get socks, textiles, hair, suits, pom-poms, buttons and make their own stuffed animals.

The workshop is taught in Greek by narrator Antonia Bellou and Developmental Psychologist Despina Sakellariou.

Cost: 12 euros (parent and child)

For children aged 4 to 5 years old

“Gioconda’s smile” by Manos Hadjidakis

Saturday 9/11, 11: 00-13: 00, 30/11, 11:00 to 13:00

Sunday 24/11, 11: 30-13: 30

One autumn morning on New York’s 5th Avenue, music composer Manos Hadjidakis noticed a woman. Her sad smile and the image of a book about Leonardo da Vinci with the Gioconda on its cover, inspired him to compose the music of “Gioconda’s smile”. One day, in a fairytale land, a lad saw the portrait of the world’s most beautiful woman and her image made him lose his sleep. He reached the ends of the world to find her. Did he succeed?

In this workshop, children will listen to this story and will then paint their own self-portraits. Leonardo da Vinci’s Gioconda and her enigmatic smile, will be their guide.

For children aged 5-7 years old

I’m a member of a family

Saturday 2/11, 11:00 to 13:00

Can a group of friends be a family? Can my beloved dog be a member of this family? In this workshop, the concept of family expands. Through the use of photos and works of art, children search for the role of their relatives in their lives, as well as who we can include in a family. The children will get to express themselves artistically with the help of clay.

The workshop is offered in Greek, but English-speaking children can also attend.

In this workshop, children will “travel in time” and stop at some of their most important personal moments and experiences that have influenced them and have become part of their personality. They will share them, color them and put them on their personal map.

The workshop is offered in Greek, but English-speaking children can also attend.

Mirror Mirror

Saturday 23/11, 11:00 to 13:00

In this workshop kids will play with their reflection on different surfaces, they will observe the shapes deform and change, the ways we communicate with our feelings without words and will then make with cardboard and roller, the perfect mirror that will reflect their best selves.

The workshop is offered in Greek, but English-speaking children can also attend.

The workshop is taught by artist and art Therapist Niovi Stavropoulou and educator Ifigenia Theodosiou.

Tickets: 12 euros

For parents and children 8-12 years old

The Cycladic figurines (guided tour)

Every month, parents and children are invited to discover the Museum’s archaeological treasures in its permanent collections. The Cycladic figurines, the collection of vases, the mythology exhibits, the daily life of the ancient Greeks, are some of the themes that will be presented during the guided tour, from November to May 2020.
