G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation supports 8th Children’s Festival of Agios NikolaosThe 8th Children's Festival of Agios Nikolaos - "my name is Hope" exudes optimism and positive thinking

The G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation, faithful to its vision and values and its conviction that the cultivation and awareness of upcoming generations is a matter of vital importance for the future, supports as a sponsor the 8th Children's Festival of Agios Nikolaos, from 16-18 of June.

The 8th Children's Festival of Agios Nikolaos - "my name is Hope" exudes optimism and positive thinking about the present and the future. It sends out inspiration and imagination that can change everyday life. The purpose of the festival is to provide quality entertainment for children as well as to inform parents about cultural issues.

In this context and with a view to educate young and older generations about the environment and culture, the G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation participates in the 8th Children's Festival of Agios Nikolaos, supporting the actions "Protect the Sea" and "Journey to Greek mythology".

"Protect the Sea" action is a continuation of the 1st Educational Program “Save the Planet from Trash”, implemented in October 2016, in 4 schools of the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos. The selected team of Planet Agents is now undertaking the training of the Festival’s small friends in order to protect the marine ecosystem. Through puzzles, games and creative activities the children will have the opportunity to discover how important the sea is for our lives, the survival of marine organisms and the balance of the environment and all the dangers the oceans face through human intervention. But the most important thing is that children will take action and learn how to deal with the problem, what each of us can do to help protect the sea.

Regarding the second action, the G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation, following the successful training course organized last summer in bluegr Hotels & Resorts, aiming at the diffusion of Greek culture to other people, extends this year the "Journey to Greek Mythology" by presenting the homonymous action in the 8th Children's Festival of Agios Nikolaos “my name is Hope".

The philologist Maria Panagiotaki is planning an interactive (co-) speech with parents, teachers and adult guests of the Children's Festival. It is about a journey to the time when the world was born, the gods, the people and the heroes - all of them "alive" and "present" even today in the works of modern creators - mainly with the aim to deconstruct their symbolism. So the answer to the question "what does the poet mean?" Is transformed into a practical philosophy that guides our steps in our everyday life by offering a criterion of orientation in our "inner" and "external" life. In the same place, children (6+ years old) under the guidance of volunteers will play "excavation", discovering and composing pictures and information about the gods of Olympus. The Foundation’s special edition "A Trip through Greek Mythology" will be given to the participants.

About G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation

The G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation hosts exhibitions of various forms of artistic expression, and its permanent collection, which is constantly being enriched, includes many works by leading Greek and foreign artists, while acting as an ark of art, storing some of its works or by placing them at the disposal of visitors of bluegrHotels & Resorts group hotels.

The G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation, firmly convinced that the awareness of younger generations is a prerequisite for changing behavior towards the environment, supports and organizes environmental actions with the participation of international guests, as well as visits to acquaint with the biodiversity of eastern Crete.

At the same time, through the LoveGreece.com (www.lovegreece.com ), an initiative of Gina Mamidakis, success stories of Greeks who are living in Greece are presented, with the use of interviews - video, whether they are into business or art, thus rising role models who create and produce in defiance of the existing conditions.

About the Planet Agents

The NGO Planet Agents focuses on producing and delivering educational programs, publishing, interactive shows and gaming with one top secret mission: to get kids aged 5-12 excited about environmental issues while having a ton of fun. Tens of thousands of kids have become secret Planet Agents to save the world, taking on top secret missions against the supervillain Ivan VonPowervamp and his resource-depleting allies.

Founded in 2009 by author and sustainability expert Eleni Andreadis, who penned the best-selling Planet Agents book series, the organization started off as an environmental non-profit tied to the books. However, in the past year the company is developing the Planet Agents brand across different platforms. It has also branched into animation though Planet Agents Productions, a production shingle with a comedy action TV show currently in development and selected to be presented at the Cartoon Forum 2016, in Toulouse, France.

About the Agios Nikolaos Children's Festival

The Children's Festival started in 2010 by two active women and over the years has succeeded not only in achieving its original goals but also in expanding by introducing itself as one of the largest children's celebrations in Crete, Greece. Since then it has been organized by an informal college with the participation of the Teachers' Association and the Parents Association, is held every year close to the end of the school year and is now a qualitative cultural intervention of institutional and non-profit character.

Self-organization, voluntary participation and, above all, anti-commercial logic make the preparation of this festival, one of the few in Greece, with free admission for adults and adults at all events, professional events and workshops.
