Oenorama, the biggest Greek wine exhibition starts today in Zappeion

Oenorama, the world’s biggest Greek wine exhibition is organized every year since 1994, in Athens Greece,
It is both the country’s largest and most important wine show, and the only place in the world where you will find so many Greek wine producers under one roof.
Oenorama 2016 will be held at the Zappeion Megaron Exhibition Hall & Conference Center in the city center, from Saturday March 5 to Monday March 7.
Τhe Zappeio Mansion, a historic building dating back to 1888, where Greece’s accession to the Common Market was signed in 1981, is only a few minutes walk from the Greek Parliament and the National Gardens.
With its beautiful high-ceilinged halls, its natural light, its easy access by all means of mass transit (45’ direct from the airport) and its proximity to dozens of hotels and restaurants, it is the ideal venue for the foreign visitor who wishes to experience the “Greek Wine Renaissance” with a minimum of hassle.
More than a thousand wines from all over Greece
As a visitor at the Oenorama wine show you will be able to taste more than a thousand wines from all over Greece and meet with over 150 growers.
Prior to the event proper and throughout the week leading up to Oenorama, visitors can enjoy any number of tastings, dinners, seminars and other wine-related happenings in various parts of the city during the 2nd edition of “Athens Wine Week” (28/02-6/03/2016).
This year, Greece’s ongoing recession notwithstanding, we are inaugurating two more exhibition areas with even more exciting wines to taste and we are repeating some of the initiatives that make Oenorama Greece’s most exciting wine show to visit. Here are five more reasons to visit Oenorama 2016:
· Wine Revelations: If you are looking for that top obscure Greek wine that no one else has, then this is the place for you. “Wine Revelations” is a hall especially dedicated to “very small wineries” (no more than 20,000 bottles annual production), wines from lesser-known Greek grape varieties (“cépage modestes”) and natural wines. Explore this Oenorama’s hall and be the first one on the block to bring back that rare diamond no one else has on their portfolio!
· Discover Greek Wine: This is another dedicated hall with about 200 of the show’s best wines arranged as a “Tasting Gallery” by grape and geographical provenance. Wines are chosen by the growers themselves as the best representatives of their terroir and region based on varietals (Greek and international) that are traditionally cultivated in there. This is a trade-only area and the best way to start one’s visit of Oenorama.
· Greek Wine Resto: If you are a restaurateur or a sommelier who works regularly with Greek wines, why not become a member of the Greek Wine Resto worldwide network of restaurants and wine bars? Learn more about this exciting initiative by Oenorama, at the Greek Wine Resto information desk. If you are a wine lover stop by and ask for our list of Greece’s best wine restaurants!
· Olive Oils by Winemakers: Very often winemakers find themselves striving for excellence in both the vineyard and the olive grove, such is the unique landscape of Greece! “Olive Oils by Winemakers” is an Oenorama initiative that promotes top-of-the-line olive oils produced by Greek winemaking estates from all over Greece. At our collective stand organized by Greece’s only wine and olive oil sommelier, Maria Katsouli, more than a dozen olive oils by winemakers will be on display from more than five different regions.
· Oenotechnica: Viticulture and winemaking technology have always been an integral part of Oenorama. This year we welcome back 20 such companies in a dedicated area right in the middle of the exhibition. Also on view are various suppliers of restaurants and wine bars. Where.
Oenorama takes place at the Zappeion Megaron Exhibition Hall & Conference Center, Queen Olga Avenue, Athens, Greece.
When
- Saturday, Sunday & Monday, 5 – 7 March 2016. · Opening hours: 10:00 to 19:00. >> Monday, March 7 is trade-only.
How to get there
- By metro, get off at the Syntagma station.
- By tramway (from the southern suburbs), get off at the Zappeion stop.
- By bus, using numerous lines, including #40 and #209, get off at either Syntagma Square or Zappeion. Oenorama 2016 tickets cost €10 each and are valid for three days. Included in the price is your tasting glass and the exhibitor catalog with all the wines on show in both Greek and English. Replacement glasses cost €3.
