€600,000 promotional actions for Thessaloniki are financed by GNTO

A program of actions for the tourist promotion of Thessaloniki, with a total budget of 600,000 euros, is being financed by the Greek National Tourism Organization. The preparation of the program, which will be implemented in the three-year period 2025-2027, will be done in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki. The goal is to support and promote Thessaloniki as an ideal long city break destination.

In this context, the Greek National Tourism Organization has already planned the implementation of important initiatives, which will be expanded and will contribute to the strengthening of tourist traffic in Thessaloniki.

In particular, following the contacts of the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization, Andreas Fiorentino, with the management of the TUI group at the beginning of the summer, a co-advertising agreement was agreed with the Greek National Tourism Organization, so that the company's advertising program will increase by 6% in 2026 for Thessaloniki, including the existing markets of Great Britain, Germany, Scandinavia, as well as new ones, such as the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland.

At the same time, discussions have progressed with three of the largest travel groups in Europe (Easyjet, Jet2 and British Airways), both to strengthen connections with Great Britain, Germany and Italy and to create new thematic packages that combine urban and cultural tourism.

At the same time, the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization is negotiating with 7 foreign airlines to strengthen the air connectivity of Thessaloniki with international destinations.

A strategic partnership to promote Thessaloniki’s culinary scene is expected by the end of the year. At the same time, a new video is being created to promote conference tourism, in collaboration with the Greek Meetings Alliance and the city’s Conference Tourism Office.

The Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization, Andreas Fiorentinos, stated:

“In close cooperation with the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Stelios Angeloudis, we are planning the next steps that will further support the recovery - for the 3rd consecutive year - of tourism in Thessaloniki - a clear government priority. In my recent meeting with major tour operators, I received a commitment from all of them to create packages and add charter flights to and from Thessaloniki in the two years 2026-2027. With a plan, a combination of forces and consistency of efforts, we will achieve results to establish Thessaloniki among the ten most popular destinations for city breaks and professional-business tourism in Europe, highlighting the uniqueness of the travel experience it offers, with durability over time and respect for local communities."
