Municipality of Piraeus: Emphasis on exciting experiences

• For another year, the municipality of Piraeus continues its effort to attract visitors to the city, with the development of new narratives as a central axis of its strategy.

Towards this end, the municipality of Piraeus aims to strengthen the trend of seeking authentic experiences in the city, aiming to develop an attractive and multi-layered set of tourist "stories", based on the exciting experiences that Piraeus can offer its visitors.

Among other things, in 2025 the municipality plans to promote experiences related to the exploration of the city's historical monuments and its charming neighborhoods, the introduction to its rich gastronomic offer, its cultural and industrial heritage, the important urban and maritime tradition, as well as contemporary cultural activity. Indicatively, the municipality of Piraeus will focus on the following tourism categories:

Fishing Tourism

According to the fishing vessel registry, around 100 fishing vessels operate in Piraeus. Therefore, the goal of obtaining a Fishing Tourism license from 50 or more vessels is considered entirely feasible. The activity will be promoted at tourism fairs or events in which the municipality will participate, as well as in other promotional and outreach media it uses.

Sun and Sea

This section will operate in conjunction with other categories and will include tours of Mikrolimano, Kastela, Marina Zeas, as well as the possibilities for marine activities on the city's coasts and beaches

Gastronomic tradition and modern offer

The section includes the presentation of the historical "hangouts" and the modern gastronomic points of the city of Piraeus, along with the promotion of the gastronomic history and tradition of the city to the present day and with corresponding proposals for gastronomic tours.

Piraeus and the Seventh Art

The activities focus on the screening of excerpts from emblematic films of domestic and international producers (e.g. Never on Sunday, the child and the Dolphin) and famous personalities (e.g. Melina Mercouri) who have linked their name to the city of Piraeus, highlighting the rich artistic past of the city.

Culture and History

This category will serve as a basic means of promotion for the main sights and places of archaeological and historical interest located in the city, such as the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus and the Hellenistic Theater of Zea, the Maritime Museum, the Electric Railway Museum, the Aikaterini Laskaridi Foundation and the Lion of Piraeus. It will also include a tour of the city and a historical look at important older and modern monuments, such as the Piraeus Clock.

Given the above, the strategic axes for the tourism promotion and development of the municipality concern, among other things, its emergence as an autonomous urban destination - a city break destination, for travelers who will choose to stay in the city's tourist accommodations, as the tourist infrastructure, new hotels and hotel renovations in the city are constantly increasing, but also as an integrated tourist destination in Attica.
