Tourism | This is Athens - Agora: Meeting in Athens in April

The most important representatives of international and domestic tourism are meeting in Athens in April at “This is Athens – Agora”. The leading B2B meeting for tourism organized by the Municipality of Athens through the Convention and Visitors Bureau (This is Athens – CVB) of the Athens Development Agency, will be hosted from April 7 to 8 at the emblematic venue of Aigli Zappeio.

The Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, emphasizes: “This is Athens – Agora” repositions Athens on the global tourism map as a destination with a modern vision. In the new period, we continue with extroversion actions, we strengthen the city's economy while prioritizing its sustainable development. Having completed the Destination's Tourism Capacity Study, we are using this valuable tool to move on to the next step, which is the creation of the Sustainable Tourism Observatory. Our every action has as its main concern the quality of life of Athenians."

For his part, the CEO of Development Athens S.A. Ioannis Georgizas points out: "The 10th anniversary of the organization of this top tourism meeting centered on Athens led us to the decision to proceed with a substantial rebranding. The aim of this international event is to reflect the vision we have for our city as a modern, sustainable, and inclusive destination, holistically highlighting the work of extroversion through This is Athens, which is the city’s tourism brand.”

Comprehensive program with B2B meetings

On the occasion of the ten-year anniversary of its first organization, “Travel Trade Athens” is evolving this year into a dynamic event with a modern vision, renamed “This is Athens – Agora”. Its new edition is designed with “green terms” and includes a full program that combines B2B meetings, speeches and panel discussions on the most contemporary issues in tourism, as well as a social program that emphasizes the authenticity of Athens.

The aim is to highlight the overall extroversion project of the Municipality of Athens for the destination, including initiatives such as This is Athens - Film Office (Athens Film Production Office) and This is Athens - City Festival, the city's largest Festival with hundreds of cultural and entertainment events throughout the year.

This is Athens - Agora will ensure the presence of high-level buyers from Europe, North America, and India for Greek participants, with the aim of strengthening both conference tourism and leisure tourism in Athens. Furthermore, in addition to Athenian businesses, tourism businesses from the rest of Greece will be able to participate (to a smaller extent).

More than 120 Greek businesses and tourism organizations and more than 90 representatives of international tourism businesses are expected to take part, including foreign journalists.

The event encourages broader networking and business opportunities. During the B2B meetings, Greek tourism businesses will have the opportunity to connect with targeted international buyers, while additional opportunities for meaningful networking will be offered throughout the event.

At the same time, during the two-day event, Greek and foreign industry leaders will share their views on the most important tourism and cultural issues, with Athens at the center of attention, while specially designed events will highlight modern Athens through authentic experiences.
