Thessaly claims its share in conference tourism

With the aim of strengthening its international recognition and establishing itself as an emerging conference destination, the Region of Thessaly participated in the international conference tourism exhibition IMEX 2025, which took place in Frankfurt. Its presence as a co-exhibitor at the national pavilion of the Greek National Tourism Organization marked Thessaly’s entry on the map of global MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) destinations.

More than 12,000 industry professionals from 150 countries, representatives of conference organizations, hotel groups, DMCs, technology providers, and event organizers, participated in the leading event of its kind. The 5,500 buyers, of which 3,000 as hosted buyers, had the opportunity to experience the conference wealth of Thessaly through scheduled B2B meetings and presentations.

The focus of interest was on the emblematic destinations of the region – Meteora, Olympus, Sporades – but also on the possibility of combining unique natural landscapes with thematic activities and authentic experiences. The presentation of Thessaly to selected hosted buyers attracted interest in organizing corporate events and conferences, taking advantage of the diversity and infrastructure of the region.

During the exhibition, the Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism, Natasha Adamopoulou, met with the president of HAPCO (Hellenic Association of Professional Conference Organizers), Tonia Alexandrou, and cruise entrepreneur Andreas Stylianopoulos, discussing the possible inclusion of the Region in the new body, the Hellenic Alliance for Conference Tourism, which is under establishment.

Participation in IMEX 2025 was an important step towards extroversion for Thessaly, confirming the Region's potential to claim a share in the global conference tourism market, as emphasized.
