Tornos News supports 'GALILEE' Palliative Care Unit as part of its corporate social responsibility program.

The “GALILEE” Palliative Care Unit is under the auspices of the Holy Diocese of Mesogaias and Lavreotiki.

“GALILEE” is staffed by a specialized team of health professionals which includes doctors, nurses, a psychologist, social workers, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a priest and nearly 100 trained volunteers.

The team offers palliative care services free of charge, at home, to patients with cancer who live within the area of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki.

The goal of palliative care is to prevent and to relieve the symptoms- both physical and psychological-which are caused by a life-threatening disease.

It does not replace curative therapy which the patient may be undergoing, but is given as complementary care. Palliative care aims for improvement in the quality of life during all the phases of the disease, from the diagnosis to remission or to relapse and the terminal stage.

Within the scope of this care, the family is also supported during the entire course of the illness, as well as during the period of grief and bereavement.

The program of palliative care is planned according to the needs and wishes of the patient. This holistic approach contributes to the effective control of symptoms, strives to find solutions to social problems and assists with the emotional difficulties and the spiritual quest of the patient.

The program of “GALILEE”  is offered free of charge to patients. Each contribution is valuable. If you wish to make any financial offer or support its work please see how you can do that here.
