Greek tourism receipts reach 2.16 billion in the first four months

Travel receipts in the country exceeded the 1 billion euro barrier in April 2025, according to the Bank of Greece's Travel Balance for April 2025, which shows significant indications of an increased contribution from the US market to the momentum being developed by Greek tourism.

April receipts amounted to 1.08 billion euros, showing an increase of 17.4% compared to the corresponding month of 2024 (923.7 million euros), with this upward trend attributable to the increase in both incoming travel traffic (+6.4%) - excluding cruise volumes - which reached 1.66 million travelers, and in the average expenditure per trip (+10.6%).

Therefore, travel receipts for the first 4 months for Greek tourism stand at 2.16 billion euros, showing an increase of 206.4 million euros or 10.6% compared to the first four months of 2024, due to the increase in incoming travel traffic (+5.8%, to 4.12 million travelers) and average spending per trip (+4.4%).

In terms of receipts, the season started on the right foot in April from the markets of Germany (+15.5%, to 183 million euros), the USA (+81%, to 181.7 million euros), and the UK (+27.9%, to 95.8 million euros). Losses were recorded, however, by Italy (-44.5%, to 33.7 million euros) and France (-20.3%, to 78.2 million euros).

Despite the increase in receipts from the German market, April travel traffic from this market decreased by 9.3% and amounted to 231 thousand travelers, while a greater decline was recorded by Italy (-39.9%, to 70.7 thousand travelers). On the contrary, an increase was recorded by the USA (+43.5%, to 150.8 thousand travelers), the UK (+41.1%, to 127.1 thousand travelers), and France (+10.1%, to 104 thousand travelers).

For the first four months of 2025, the largest increase in receipts came from the USA (+36.8%, to €325.5 million), followed by the UK (+23.4%, to €167.8 million) and Germany (+0.8%, to €297.1 million), with France and Italy moving downwards (-25% and -6.6%, to €110.2 million and €110.3 million respectively). Receipts from Russia increased to €2.5 million.

During the same period, inbound travel traffic from France and Italy had losses of 22.6% and 11%, to 164.6 thousand and 198.3 thousand travelers, respectively. The remaining major markets moved upwards, with the largest increase in inbound travel from the UK (+41.5%, to 294.6 thousand travelers). This was followed by the USA (+26.9% to 339.5 thousand travelers) and Germany (+3.6%, to 475.5 thousand travelers).
