The National Museum of Underwater Antiquities in Piraeus is set to open in 2026, showcasing the archaeological treasures found at the bottom of the sea.

At the same time, the museum will be an iconic cultural landmark for the country’s largest port, Piraeus. As stated by the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, this is “a vision of decades, which is now in the final stretch for its implementation and completion. The development of our homeland, from prehistory to the present day, is directly linked to the sea, shipping, and seafaring.

The main purpose of the creation of the National Museum of Underwater Antiquities is, through the findings of our seas, to highlight Greek civilization in its great diachronicity, in its long historical and uninterrupted duration, in a space in which underwater antiquities will be exhibited exclusively. We want to highlight these characteristics in the National Museum of Underwater Antiquities, almost unique in its kind: It is an emblematic work of culture, in a landmark building for Piraeus, on the Aetioean Coast, the Silo…”.

Call for Interest for the 2026 Charm

Taking into account the above, the sea or underwater archaeology will also be the source of inspiration for the 2026 Charm.

In particular, the Cultural Resources Management and Development Organization, which is responsible for the operation of shops in archaeological sites and museums, which, among other things, offer a range of souvenirs, utilitarian and decorative objects, with themes inspired by Greek cultural heritage, has issued a call for interest for the creation of the 2026 Charm.

Among other things, the Charm will be made of 925 silver and gold-plated 925 silver, with a total weight of at least 4 grams, while it must be distinguished by elegance and quality. The cost of the proposal should not exceed 15 euros, and the final quantity of pieces will be determined by the ODAP.

It is noted that each candidate can submit up to 3 proposals, while the deadline for their submission is April 9th at 12:00.
