Travel report: Best family friendly Greek Islands for summer holidayWhether you are traveling with young children or your grandparents, you just need to know where to go to have a great time

When planning your family holiday to Greece, it is important to select the appropriate destination to ensure you have an unforgettable experience, according to the following article by greekreporter.com:

Whether you are traveling with young children or your grandparents, you just need to know where to go to have a great time. Let’s look at the most family friendly Greek islands to help you plan your vacation.

Crete:

Crete is Greece’s second biggest island and has many resorts and family orientated hotels with water parks. It is also an island seeped in ancient culture for those wishing to visit pristine ancient ruins, such as Knossos which is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site and Europe’s oldest city. Really, you don’t have to look far to find something for the whole family to be entertained with on this island. Here are some places to consider as your home base while visiting on the island:

Kokkini Hani, Crete

Offers: Different hotels with pools and seafront as well as great activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Kokkini Hani is situated 14 km east of Heraklion and is a popular holiday destination for families with younger children.

The area remained rather untouched until the 1960s when full electricity and telephone services reached this part of Crete, and several hotels were built.

The beaches are impressive and the hotels that are in this area cater to families with activity schedules, pools, social events and beachfront access.

Agios Nikolaos, Crete (and surrounding area)

Offers: A variety of sights and nearby beaches with shallow, calm waters ideal for young and old alike.

Another stunning vacation destination for you and your family this summer is on Greece’s second largest island, Crete, in Agios Nikolaos.

Agios Nikolaos is quaint and quieter than many other places on the island, and there are unique and wonderful beaches such as Tsifliki beach that you can visit. There are also many beaches near by that offer organized beaches with family friendly, shallow waters.

Also, depending on where you stay, you can have fun-filled days with activities organized by your hotel, do water sports or simply go out exploring on your own.

The Ionian Islands:

When you visit any of the seven well-known prinicpal Ionian islands, you are entering into a treasure of history and myth. Let’s look at some of the most family friendly destinations on them.

Corfu, Ionian islands

Offers: Great beaches, history and is budget friendly.

Most beaches are with both sand or pebbles, so depending on what you are looking for, there are options. Also at Sidari beach on the north coast the water is more shallow and warmer.

There are also water parks on the island, ideal for younger children.

With Unesco sites to explore by day and open-air cinemas showing movies at night in English, your days and nights will be filled with family fun.

You can find many reasonably priced hotels to stay at on the island.

Zakynthos, Ionian islands

Offers: Great beaches, and is great for social teenagers.

On Zakynthos you could find yourself renting a beautiful villa and enjoying the popular destination of Peligoni Beach Club and making new friends.

Take a day trip to the incredible shipwreck beach, Navagio, where the dramatic cliffs and white sand beaches will transport you and your family to a paradise unlike any other.

There are many activities for teens organized by hotels and beaches such as social events and activities as well as cafe-restaurants, pools, tennis courts and water sports activities.

Lefkada, Ionian islands

Offers: A lot of water sports for older family members.

This island is one of Greece’s top ranking destinations for water sports.

If you are taking a vacation with your siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, or maybe even your sporty and active parents, check out the large marina at Lefkaka Town for yachting and Vasiliki Bay in the south which is exposed to local thermal winds, and boasts many water sports activities. From surfing to kayaking, there is something for everyone in the family.

You can rent a villa for a week and chill out on the island.

The Cyclades:

This group of Greek islands are some of the most popular tourists destinations. Nevertheless, they are also home to some of Greece’s most important archaeological ruins and have some great places to vacation with your family.

Milos, Cyclades

Offers: A chance to explore the sea, perfect for confident swimmers of all ages.

Since Milos island was created by underwater volcanic activity, the coast has unique rock formations, lush sea life and sea caves in abundance; perfect for scuba diving and exploring.

There are pristine beaches created by natural inlets and surrounded by rock formations such as Sarakiniko or Kleftiko.

The island’s central tourist beach is Paliohori where you will locate tavernas and be able to rent sun beds and umbrellas. It is composed of three adjoining beaches, with red, pink, yellow and white pebbles, and backed by red cliffs, with warm underwater springs making it an amazing place to swim for older teens and adults.

There are plenty of near-by rooms to rent close to beaches that are reasonably priced if you are on a budget.

The Sporades Islands:

Here is where you go when you want to relax and enjoy time with your family in nature. Get ready to explore and have fun.

Alonissos, Sporades

Offers: Amazing wildlife and perfect for taking a boat trip and seeing dolphins and seals.

The most remote islands of the Sporades group, Alonissos has a refuge for rare seabirds as well as the protected Mediterranean monk seal, monachus monachus.

The Alonissos National Marine Park encompasses Alonissos itself, plus six smaller neighboring islets that are all accessible by a boat tour.

You could even choose to explore the sea by kayak, or hike trails all over the island. It is paradise for nature lovers. Just be sure to pack your binoculars to look out for eagles, falcons, shags, cormorants, and various gulls. In all, A wonderful and unique family vacation.

There are numerous hotels to stay at that are located overlooking the popular sandy beaches of Chrysi Milia as well as all over the island.
